Donation To RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands

This entry was posted in November 1, 2023

On the 3rd May 2023 Mr John and Mrs Linda Woodhall members of the RSPB celebrated their 6th wedding anniversary. On this day they decided to visit Lindas favourite place the RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands. They arrived at 9am as usual and decided to walk to the furthest hide and then slowly make their way back.

Unfortunately, on this day as they were at the hide Linda fell unwell, luckily there was a volunteer nearby who saw Linda and came over to help. He was a retired doctor; His name was Jeremy and he knew straight a way that Linda was having a stroke. Jeremy radioed back to the visitor centre immediately knowing that Linda would need an ambulance.

Amongst the crowd of visitors at RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands that day was a disabled gentleman on a mobility scooter. As he could see Linda was in a lot of distress and needed help the kind gentleman gave the scooter to Linda to help her back to the visitor centre where the ambulance was waiting. The gentleman then proceeded to use his walking sticks to get back himself.

Had they not have had the scooter the story would have had a different ending; Linda is still recovering but it could have been a lot worse had she not got back to the ambulance as quickly as she did. From this experience the couple have now seen how important it is to have a mobility scooter.

As the RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands only have one mobility scooter that visitors can hire, they have decided to take action and donate one from our Ableworld Stockport store. They recently bought the Rascal 388S Pavement Scooter for the RSPB to lend out to coming visitors in the hope it could help someone in the same position as Linda or allow someone who may have mobility issues to still carry on enjoying their hobbies.

Thank you, Mr and Mrs Woodhall, for sharing this fantastic story we are glad we could help you with this kind donation which we hope many visitors will benefit from.
